Discussion:
IE9 Beta too dependent on GPU?

I downloaded the latest IE9 preview (1.9.7766.6000) and have noticed a
considerable performance problem. I am running the Flickr Explorer speed test
and the best I can do a FPS of about 1 to 30 where average is about 3 fps.
The animations take almost a minute to complete. My overall machine CPU is
about 5%. I know for a fact that I am having some serious problems with my
Video cards. I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro and Radeon X1550 Series cards
running on my Windows 7 64-bit box. I cannot run aero on this machine due to
video performance reasons too.

Is there a way for IE9 to detect when FPS rate is way too slow with current
hardware/driver configuration and then tap some of the processing power of
the computers CPU? I know that I just need to shoot up my ATI cards and just
go get some NVidia cards instead that are Win7 compatible, but I expect that
we will see a lot of people install IE9 that may also have video card issues.

I use an 8600 GT and IE9 preview works fine for me. My backup card is the HD
2400 which is a entry-level card I got from a friend after my 8600 GT fried
3 capacitors which were fixed by another friend.

I suggest getting a somewhat more recent video card for IE9. I am also
looking at a better video card as my 8600 GT leaves some room for
improvement.

I have an old system too,

Pentium D 3.20 GHz, ATI Radeon X1600,
the average FPS value for the Flickr test is 8-13 (pictures flying
around) and 60 when the test is finish.

But this is a special test side. On a normal website the GPU power is
less important.
Maybe we get more and more sites with "floating content", Web 3.0 or
however we can call this websites, but regular sites with this content,
like web EMail for e.g. use a lot of JS script = CPU power too.
Move the usage of GPU to CPU will not help.

Overall I must admit, even though I use it too, it's my turn. My
computer system is 3 or 4 years old, it's time for a new one.
