Discussion:
Compatibility issues/program crashes under IE8

I've riped the hair out of my head testing this on two computers running
Vista (U) SP1, both running intel duo cores (one is centrino duo), one with a
Nvidia graphics card and other an ATI, and in both cases the program "UFile
2007" crashes under IE8 and "Emulate IE7.

I can open the program, but when I select "results" or try to navigate, the
program crashes with a runtime error under Visual C++.

It is the only program I'm having problems with and in both cases I tested
the program before installing IE 8 and IMMEDIATELY after installing IE 8 with
the same results. It worked fine under IE7 but now it won't even with the
Emulate IE 7 option. I have tried turning the safety filter off, turning my
antivirus and firewall off (Bit Defender), but the problem persists. (I have
yet to try smashing the machine with a hammer:)

I communicated the problem to the developers of UFILE 2007 but was wondering
how to let Microsoft know? (When the program crashes it doesn't ask me if I
want to report the problem to Microsoft). Any suggestions.

I wasn't able to get past the crashes as well. Finally uninstalled IE8. IE7
is stable and no more problems.

Windows XP Professional w/SP3 & Kerpaskey Internet Security, ATI Mobility
Radeon 9600, 2 gigs of ram, Direx X 9.

I did notice that when my copy crashed, it would immediately start a new
copy of the program and reopen the page that had crashed (just to crash again
however). Whatever the problem is, IE8 isn't ready yet.

And have both of you tested in No Add-ons mode?

Bill, it's obvious that enigma's problem is different from mine. I don't have
a problem navigating. But YES, I have tested with ALL add-on's disabled. Not
that I have very many. I don't like add-on's. Please remember the problem is
the same on both machines and presents itself IMMEDIATELY after installing
IE8.

You've done the right thing posting here. That should get some eyes on the
issue.

I suspect, myself, that this is UFILE 2007's problem, but I'm quite sure
that Microsoft will be interested in determining that for themselves.

Bill, no, I didn't think to test in this mode.
I'll wait for the next release and test then.

For anyone interested, the support team at UFILE let me know the problem has
been corrected in the upcoming release of their program. So it was a program
issue and not a problem with IE8.
