I have outlook express on my desktop at home. I am going out of town for 2
weeks and I want to check my mail from a new netbook (just purchased) that
also has outlook express. How do I set the netbook up to have the same e-mail
address so I can pull up my mail when not at home?

This is hardly the right newsgroup but...
Either do it manually using OE-Tools-Accounts or...

On your desktop, use OE-Tools-Accounts, highlight the account you want
to copy and press Export.
Copy that .iaf file to your laptop and use OE-Tools-Accounts and
Import that file.

[Crosspost to OE General]

Umm..., Outlook Express is not an email account, it's a Mail Client and
you'd set up your email account (address) in OE on your netbook the same way
you have it set up on your desktop. Then you'd need to configure the
following...

On both machines:

OE Tools > Accounts > Mail > [mail account] > Properties > Advanced >
Delivery > Leave a copy of message on server (check)

OE Tools > Accounts > Mail > [mail account] > Properties > Advanced >
Delivery > Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items' (check as
appropriate)

On only one machine (probably the desktop):

OE Tools > Accounts > Mail > [mail account] > Properties > Advanced >
Delivery > Remove from server after XX days (set as desired).

The above notwithstanding, remember that you can always access your email
via the webmail page while you're away.

I can't decide what you are trying to do.
Do you want to see the mail that is already on the desktop?
You will have to copy the messages from the desktop to the laptop.
http://www.insideoe.com/backup/

Do you want to check for new messages? If you just want to check for new
messages, Alan Edwards has the answer.

Are you using a pop account?
Do you want to send messages? You will not be able to send with your
service provider settings.
You can use mail2web.com to check and send messages on a pop account.
Another option is add the pop account to a Hotmail or Gmail account.

Thanks for the reply. Upon rereading my post, I wasn't as clear as I could
have been.

I want to do more than just check for new messages. I agree, that a web
solution is fine for checking messages from anywhere.

My desire is
#1 Must Have: the stored messages on the desktop available on the laptop.
#2 Must Have: As new messages are created, forwarded, and moved to their
appropriate folders from the laptop, I want to be able to copy changes to
the desktop and still be in sync.
#3 Would Like to Have: a) The ability to add folders on the laptop. b)
Move messages into them. c) run a synchronization and see the changes
reflected on the desktop.
#4 Would Like to Have: a) The ability to add message rules on the laptop.
b) run a synchronization and see the changes reflected on the desktop

Confused yet?

Answers to your last post.
Do you want to see the mail that is already on the desktop? YES.
Are you using a pop account? YES - 3 of them. - Actually one of
the pop accounts is from my ISP, collects email from two or three other
servers

OE 6 on the desktop computer is configured to receive mail from 4 accounts
Do you want to send messages? YES -
I currently send out using any one of 3 email addresses as the sender
Actually the laptop is already configured to receive and send from all
accounts. It performs identically to my desktop even when logged onto the
client's network.
You will not be able to send with your service provider settings.-
ALREADY SOLVED

Really there are only 3 incoming, as one account has two instances with two
flavours. One is named Home___, the other External____.
One is for use from my home office, another from a client's local area
windows network. The SMTP is different.
I toggle between these two by disabling the inappropriate account depending
on my location.

On top of that, I use AVG (paid licensed version) and learned to set up a
proxy for anti-spam protection for each of the email accounts.
I can't decide what you are trying to do.

While everything you want is possible with the assistance of at least one
utility (http://www.oehelp.com/OEX/Default.aspx), executing & maintaining
such a set-up would be very complicated and time-consuming. And one misstep
could lead to loss of data on either or both computers. OE simply wasn't
designed for such use...but Outlook is, especially when used with Exchange.
You get what you (don't) pay for: OL & Exchange aren't free.

Here is an old email. The information seems to be good.

Set up an IMAP server on one of the computers. I use Mercury Mail:

http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercury.htm

Use the computer which is mostly always on; it will have to be on for the
times when you access the other computer. Set up the Mercury Mail POP3
Distributing client to fetch your email from your POP3 servers. They will
be kept on the disk of the computer running Mercury Mail. Set up the
Mercury Mail IMAP4 server. Log in from whichever computer you are on using
your favorite IMAP capable email program; MS Outlook Express works just
fine this way. None of the other modules need to be selected.
