Can only add *://*.something.com to trusted sites...

Tried to add *://*.di.fm to my trusted sites this morning but keep getting a
message saying that the syntax is incorrect.
Then tried with .com just for the fun of it and succeded. Tried with .dk and
failed again.

Adding http://www.di.fm works fine, but seems that * only works for .com
domains.

Think this is an error in IE8 - but an annoying one...

A different hotkey is used for call for IE's own help when installed
under different versions of Windows? My recollection is that F1 works
in IE no matter what version of IE is used and no matter on which
version of Windows it runs.

To OP:
When searching IE's help, try "security zones" to start with.

In my VistaSP2 all it does is bring up Help and Support
with no apparent way in it to differentiate which product
you are doing searches for.

BTW I also checked the implementation this way:
(dir/s IE* from \Windows\Help in each case)

Don't wildcard the protocol scheme (http, https). In fact, don't even
specify the protocol scheme (disable the option that requires https://
be specified for trusted sites). Just enter the domain, like:

di.fm

https:// is only needed if you leave the "requires https://" option
enabled (so only secured sites using SSL can be added to the list).
Otherwise, only http(s):// and file:// are supported and you don't
really have to even add the protocols to the URL to specify a site.

Don't even bother specifying a hostname if you trust all hosts that
might be employed by that domain. For example, to trust all of
Microsoft's hosts on their microsoft.com domain (personally I wouldn't),
just add the following to the trusted sites zone:

microsoft.com
