IE Protection mode

I am a IE8 Vista User on a home PC. I noticed today that my Internet
Protection Mode is off as shown at the bottom of the IE screen. When I look
in Tools - Security the Protection box is ticked. I have unticked, applied
then re ticked. But this makes no differance to what my IE window is saying
in the bottom bar.

Any ideas if it is on or not? I want it on so any ideas how to get it on guys?

PS: It's Protected Mode & it was turned off because you'd disabled UAC.
