When I try to get into the NCAA Football Channel, I get "locked out" with the
following message:

Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer

A malfunctioning or malicious add-on has caused Internet Explorer to
close this webpage.
What you can do:
Go to your home page

Try to return to yahoo.com

More information

Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system
memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on.

Other things you can do:

Go online to learn about the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security feature

How can I get rid of this problem

I have no problem when I go to game channels for baseball games.

Can someone please explain what is going on.

Many thanks

Hi Ted,

Not enough information.

Data execution prevention messages are usually caused by IE Addons.

Try running IE in no-Addons mode (Start>Accessories>System Tools>Internet
Explorer (no Addons).

More than likely you have an Incompatible Addon for IE8. Check with your
Addon vendors for updates for their software.

toolbar.yahoo.com

if you are also running Yahoo Messenger, also check for updates (I think
Yahoo bundle the messenger with their toolbar).

DEP errors have occurred previously also with earlier versions of the Google
toolbar. Again check for updates. toolbar.google.com

Regards.

Rob,

This DEP thing is getting extremely annoying, I need to swtich off my pc
everytime I want to close a stupid webpage. I tried the method you mentioned
and it is no use. I cannot contact all the vendor to update their add-on and
it seems Microsoft is using people to make those the vendor do something to
the benefits of Microsoft.

Is there anyway we can take out the DEP thing? I have enough protection of
my pc and need no you guys to go this to help me. No. Thanks.

I found the answer to this problem. The problem came from the conflict
between some bios and internet explorer 8 security setting.

To solve this you can
Method 1:

Disable "Non Execute Memory Protection" in your bios setting.

or

Method 2:

in IE8 -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> under Security Section
uncheck "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks"

Do only one method, but I recommend disable in bios and let windows take
care of the security itself.

I think Microsoft should come up with some patch to check if bios has
already turned on this security check or not.

Let me know if it works. It's my first time posting in here.

I would enable the protection in the BIOS since it can protect corruption
from a poorly written application or deliberate corruption from a Virus and
disable the protection in IE8.

Hi Ted,

You did not uninstall your incompatible version of the Google Toolbar, then
reboot.

It is very important that you follow my instructions. Running IE in
no-Addons mode for that version has no effect. The issue is caused by the
GoogleToolbarUpdater.exe in your windows startup list.

You MUST reboot your computer after you have uninstalled the GoogleToolbar
and the GoogleToolbarUpdater.

Kristal, Please start your own thread. You may have a completely different
issue. The Google toolbar is not the only incompatible Addon that causes DEP
errors. Look in your Windows startup list for services that may be 'Calling
Home' (viz Update checking). Qicktime and AOL services are known to cause
this problem also, but that is not an exhaustive list.

Regards.

Hi,

I had the same problem and tried all the different things until I tried the
following. Just right clck thr IE icon and run as administrator. It worked
for me. I think it is very weird though. I am running IE8 on Windows 7 RC.
Hope that helps.
