Some websites cause IE8 to stop responding. Facebook profiles, especially
those with a lot of content cause this most often. The picture gallery
feature in Facebook doesn't function properly in IE8. This is when running
when IE8 is emulated as IE7, i don't know if these problems occur when
emulation is off.

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. You might have incompatible add-ons:
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Read this
article first:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete data (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?

3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971
Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Resetting internet explorer resolved the problem for me. It was driving me
crazy. The process only took about 10 minutes.

Problem appears common in IE8, why would IE7 add-ons not be compatible with
IE8? Wasn't the whole idea of IE8 to be more compatible with everything than
anyother version of IE?

I've got the same problem but then with Microsoft's own site: www.hotmail.com

For no apparent reason IE8 just hangs. (Running in Windows 7 btw). I have no
malware or incompatible plugin's on my system!

I really find those replies annoying: You probably got malware or some
incompatible plugins". Those are standard answers which are neither helpful
or actually solving the problem.

Now I want to add another homepage tab to my IE8.0, as soon as I press
OK.... HANG. I cannot not even kill it by ending the process! Have to reboot
the machine (which takes an awfull while when this problem occurs).

IMHO IE8 isn't ready to be released already, it is buggy, terribly slow and
has issues with 90% of the websites!
