Checking out a Sharepoint Document in IE 8

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this query in. However, the
problem only seems to occur when I use IE 8 (I experience no issues when
using other browsers)

I have access to a sharepoint server, on which various work related
documents are stored (.doc, xlsx etc) Prior to upgrading my PC to Windows 7
(and IE 8), I experienced no problems.

However since I upgraded, whenever I attempt to 'check out' a document in
Sharepoint I get the following error message

"Object Reference Not Set to An Instance of Object"

This happens whether or not I 'save to drafts' folder.

As mentioned at the start, this problem only occurs when using IE as my
chosen browser (I have also tried Firefox and Safari)

In addition to that, I got a colleague (on his machine) to log on as me, and
he confirmed that he does not get the same problem, which suggests that the
issue is not account realated.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the issue with IE 8 on my PC

Hi Dan,

Compare your IE Security Zone and Compatibility View settings with that of
your Colleagues'.

You should accept the default security zone settings ("Reset all zones to
default" button) and also "Include updated web site lists from Microsoft" in
Compatibility View Settings. Your colleague may also have "Display intranet
sites in Compatibility View" checked.

Also compare the sites that you each have in the Trusted Sites Zone.

Assuming you are on a work owned computer, you should refer your enquires to
your System Administrators or your Network service providers who should be
able to advise you on the settings required in IE8 to access your Sharepoint
servers.

Regards.
