I have IE8 installed and runnung but have purchased an online course from
Oracle. However, they say their courses run in IE6 and maybe IE7 but not
IE8. If I downlaod and install IE6 will I mess up IE8?

Hi,
Which version of Windows? (Including SP level- SP1, SP2 ,etc.)

You won't be able to install IE6. You'll see a message that a newer version
of Internet Explorer is installed. You might be able to uninstall your way
back to IE6, depending on how Internet Explorer and Service Packs (assuming
the OS is XP) were installed.

I would install Virtual PC and the time-limited VPC image for IE6.
See:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=21EABB90-958F-4B64-B5F1-73D0A413C8EF&displaylang=en
for details.

Hope this helps,

Hi John,

If Oracle support say that it will run in IE7 then it will run in IE8's IE7
Compatibility mode.

Tools>Compatibility View Settings

Add the domain of the Oracle online course to the list of sites.

While you are there make sure you have checked "Include updated website
lists from Microsoft"

It is strange that Oracle support does not yet have answers for their
software and IE8. They are probably operating on canned answers.

Regards.

Good suggestion. However the site pops a new window in full screen and does
not show any IE tool bars or address bar so I am not sure what the URL is and
can't set the compatibility for the page. It is really a pain.

As far as a canned answer, perhaps, but I got it from three people at Oracle.

Back up: Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista x64
SP2) before we go any further here.
