A couple months ago I decided to add www.facebook.com to my restricted sites
list.

Now I would like to remove the list, but the URL is no where to be found.
The web site, however is still inaccessible and it is identified at the lower
right of my screen as a restricted site.

Why is that I cannot find it in the restricted site list? All the URLS in
the list are listed in aphabetical order, so finding www.facebook.com, should
not be difficult.

I've gone through the list over and over and cannot find it.

What to do?

IE version? Windows version? What anti-virus application or security suite
is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware
applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Has
a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the computer
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

[I could go on & on...and usually do.]

Hi Badger,

Facebook will also not work if you have Active Scripting turned off in the
Intranet Zone.

Reset your Security Zones to their default settings.

Tools>Internet Options - Security tab, click the "Reset all zones to
default"

Regards.

Added it WHERE? You sure it was in the Restricted Sites security zone and
not in some security or anti-malware program or in a hosts file?

And did you actually look in the Sites list for the Restricted Sites
security zone?

Yep, that means it is in the Restricted Sites security zone.

If it were added as "www.facebook.com". Maybe it got added as
"facebook.com" or "someotherhostthanwww.facebook.com". Alas, there is no
search feature to let you scan through the list to find "facebook".

I've gone through the list over and over and cannot find it. What to do?
Because sorting starts at the left end with the hostname, *if* a hostname
is specified (because you can also block domains rather than just
particular hosts at domains), you'll have to keep wading through the list
seeing if some other hostname was used for the facebook.com domain.

You could look in the registy under the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains

Sites for all security zones are listed here. The bitmasked data value
specifies in which security zone that entry belongs. Just highlight the
above key and do a search for "facebook". Then delete its registry key.
