The McAfee SecurityCenter user interface no longer functions once IE 8 Beta 2
is installed. It displays blank.

I am Running Vista Home Prmium and have SecurityCenter 2007 installed (not
sure if its 2007 or 2008 but the task bar icon is a grey box with a red M).

It is the version that is distributed for Dell.

This is absurd. Mcafee forum told me to present this bug feedback to IE8
group and offered me this website, where exactly I found out that it's mcafee
what's buggy. No offense, but can u just offer me a direct resolution to this
problem??? Uninstall Mcafee or IE8? And will the full version of IE8 be
Mcafee-compatible? That's the real concern. Thank you so so so much for
understanding what I am saying truly and deeply. Don't talk nonsense okay???

McAfee forum is not official McAfee Support. Don't expect your McAfee app
to be supported in IE8 until the final version is released (no one knows
when). If you want to continue *testing* IE8 Beta 2, you'll have to replace
your McAfee app; otherwise, uninstall IE8 Beta 2.

Both the IE8beta and McAfee download sites should put a list of known
incompatibilities right next to their respective download buttons... adding
this to their websites (once a place is set up for it) should take zero
time... this problem was noted back on 6/7/08 (or earlier)!!! I just spent
the better part of two days screwing around with this issue before figuring
out what it was... this isn't acceptable when such simple solution (posting
known incompatibilities).

<GRUMPINESS AHEAD> Of course... one might expect a simple scan of ones
system for known incompatibilities would be done before any install of any
software, period... but that would be like suggesting to one of the big three
car-makers that the writings on the wall when management (or lack) is such
that no one at any level feels they have the authority (or
motivation/interest) to insist that obvious product shortcomings be
addressed. Sigh. You'd think the fact that lemmings can't swim would be
motivation enough... (6/7/08 !!! Sheesh!!!) but no one ever seems to think
such little details apply to them or what they are "supposed" to be
responsible for.

12/5/08 Beta is beta... no problem with that... or that all problems aren't
fixed right away... or that there might be squables as to who has to fix what
and how... HOWEVER... this doesn't mean the following MINIMUM courtesy to
ones customers couldn't be made (6/7/08!!!);

(1) both IE8beta & McAfee post incompatibilities next to download button, or
as a pop-up after pressing button....

(2) Auto-check for known incompatibilities... p.s.. this is what computers
and software do ;)

just a thought, thnx

Hi, I've been following this thread, and I've got to tell you something.
(a I followed the suggestiion by McAfee, and tried to delete IE8 Beta. Go
to the list of apps to be changed, or deleted, and remove IE8

Sounds easy ... but, when I went to that site, IE8 was not listed at all.
For that matter, I couldn't find he app in any conclusive and straightforward
manner, by using "search" (Vista version). it wasn't there in any major way
either. I tried to remove it by looking for the uninstall app usually
included, and that wasn't there either.

I tried to d/ld IE7, and while installing it, was given the message that IE7
is not compatible with Vista! Nice, no?

Two solutions, d/ld Foxfire 3, and maybe stay there anyway, no matter what
M/S or McAfee stop playing the good old game, "It's not my fault, it's yours".

M/S ... You rewrite your app so that it will work with our new product.
McAfee ... Your new IEBeta has a big glitch in it, if it won't work with any
of our longtime, time tested Security system.

A pox on them both.

Or, and this one is tricky, just ignore that craazy browser window, upon
which any touch goes "Plink", and then, install a second edition of Internet
Explorer. It will work just as well as if nothing had happened. How about
that? Are you covered for all the issues taken care of by McAfee? Your
computer will tell you that you are completely covered, but you just can't go
to check that out, directly.

I wasn't too taken with trying a M/S Beta program, but never thought that
I'd be stuck with it! Shades of trying, in the past to remove Compuserve, or
good old, AOHell!

Hang tough

Hey, Vince. You probably know my son, Paul O'Rear, MVP, and president of the
group for several years.

"You have to expect problems with Beta versions, la, la, la".

Um, hum. Yea, I worked with a much earlier version of IE, and had to send
replies to M/S, by Pony Express. Actually, by the using dos! A bit paranoid,
don't you think?

Anyway, Windows XP, was never sent out, or Vista, without the built in "Send
us a message if anything goes wrong". Built right into the app. Well, in my
book, that means that M/S **knows that there a lot of bugs still in the
program**, not fixed in the Beta versions, Like they know, that it's going to
give the blue screen of death, or the "Darth Vader" message, "You have
committed an unpardonable sin, and you will now be electrocuted". (Slightly
transliterated, but the fiirst time most people read that message, back then,
they got really upset, and headed for the john. We **expected the developers
version Win NT**, to be a real b....., and to crash all the time, and be
picky about hardware. But in the good old days, Win 95 was, I sure, "Plug
and Pray", but it usually did do a reasonable job of running along without
many serious problems. Such as requirering one to completely reinstall
windows, and, keep a serious backup tnat time A date when, so far as you
knew, all was well. (Whereas in fact the nasty problem only surfaced when it
did, but the underlying problem had been lurking below, all of the time.

I nearly fell over laughing, when, not so very long ago, B.G. had a news
conference, to demonstrate that the latest version of Windows, didn't crash.
But, it did, right in front of a big group of reporters. (I have always
wondered if someone managed to sandbag him, by messing with his computer?)

Anyway, I'm p..... that it took me 3 hours, to find this thread, and learn
that like the James Bond character ... I have, in fact, been left out in the
cold. Or, hung out to dry whichever issue works for you.

Write if you find work. (ouch, not a good joke, right now)

Take care

I could not beyond the splash screen for the security center. Nothing worked
in the security center because nothing was visable. I e-mailed McAfee and got
a tech who said the only way to fix the problem was to uninstall IE8. I don't
understand why a web browzer should interfer with a security system but it
does... once IE8 was unistalled I regained my security. I'm running a Gateway
x64 bit with home premium
and an AMD tricore (the McAfee is free from ComCast so...). How many others
are having the same problem but won't go through the hassel to let Microsoft
know there is a problem is anyones guess.
Let me know if you and McAfee decied to play nice so I can try the Beta again.

and an AMD tricore (the McAfee is free from ComCast so...). How many others
are having the same problem but won't go through the hassel to let Microsoft
know there is a problem is anyones guess.
Let me know if you and McAfee decied to play nice so I can try the Beta again.

The IE Team is aware of compatibility issues between IE8 Beta 2 and
McAfee. We are investigating and working with McAfee to help resolve any
issues.
Thank you, Kristen.

I could not beyond the splash screen for the security center. Nothing worked
in the security center because nothing was visable. I e-mailed McAfee and got
a tech who said the only way to fix the problem was to uninstall IE8. I don't
understand why a web browzer should interfer with a security system but
it does... once IE8 was unistalled I regained my security. I'm running a

ok McAfee are saying this is Microsoft's problem

http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/showthread.php?p=531764&posted=1#post531764

Is the blame being passed around?

What exactly is the problem here, what has changed in IE8 to cause this?
What are the technical changes that have been made to stop McAfee
SecurityCenter to stop working properly?

You are not running IE8, you're running IE8 Beta 2. Chances are that McAfee
will support IE8 when it's released.

McAfee does not Support any Beta version of a Browser. They will support IE8 when it is Officialy released.
A stupid Policy.

What I want to know is when can we expect MSFT to Take it out of Betta?
Any Mods have an Idea?

It's not a stupid policy. McAfee and Microsoft are working on it together.
If you wish to use McAfee security software in the meanwhile you will have
to uninstall IE8.

Well its now October 20th and Mircosoft and Mcafee still has not worked out
this issue. I guess its not a big deal for either of them and I will
remember that when I buy a new computer and Anti Virus program (APPLE &
NORTON).

The issue seems to be "WHO SHOULD FIX OR PATCH IT ?".

I had this problem starting about four days ago
(McAfee Security Center does not open.....blank window).

First tried the Microsoft .bat patch for this
and it did not solve the problem.

Two days ago McAffee online chat support concluded by saying
Microsoft will have to issue a patch for it. This means wait OR
uninstall IE8b2 and install something else fast.

My guess is that McAfee cannot fix it so what do you say Microsoft ?

System: XP home SP3 uptodate, NO networking.net,
McAfee 2008 from MSN,

In some cases a software vendor will not create a fix for a beta product but
instead will wait until the final product is released and then release an
update to their own software. In other cases the software vendor may be
either working on a fix and not ready to release it since it is a beta
product they are using for testing or they are working with Microsoft on a
solution. I cannot say whether or not either side will ever fix the issue
but it is likely things will work out by the time the final is released or
soon thereafter. This does not help you now but I disagree that nothing
will ever be done.
