I have read alot of the posts here. And here is my problem. I am running XP
and updated to IE8. Since the update back on June 25th NO OTHER updates can
be applied. They download but do no install. I went through the control panel
and add/remove programs. IE 8 is there but there is no delete button. How
can i delete it?

More info, please:

Did you install WinXP SP3 after you installed IE8 Beta1?

Did you do a "clean install" of WinXP and then install IE8 Beta 1?

What update did you install on June 25th?

Do you see this update behavior only when updating via Windows Update
website, via Automatic Updates, or both?

Yes- SP3 after IE 8

XP has been on laptop for 3yrs without problems

Was doing automatic updates. When I go to update history it shows update
failures for everything after IE8

Only update that has happened is SP3. Downlaoded to computer then launced it.

Nevertheless, you won't be able to uninstall IE8 Beta 1 as long as SP3's
installed, Louis. After doing so, look in Add/Remove Programs | Make sure
"Show Updates" box is checked | Scroll down and see if "Windows Internet
Explorer 8 (Beta)" is listed.

PA Bear, That doesnt work. Microsoft needs to put out an Immediate Removal
Software patch, otherwise you have to rebuild your entire system to update
ever again. Ive tried every Avenue you have said wortks. Sorry bud, but you
dont have a clue what your doing, you think you do, but you are just
parroting what others tell you to post which is a worse crime than not
knowning what to do.

I would suggest learning something first before you post again.

All Others. For now, Till a fix can be made, I suggest just ignoring updates
for now or Rebuild your system from scratch. Ive gone through all the root
programs. Nothing works, I cant even delete the software directly through
regedit and programs directory because Microsoft put a protection lock on it
preventing removal of all forms other than a full format. :(

If you need a reiliable Browser get Firefox. I havent had a problem in 5
years now.

You are welcome to begin a new thread about *your* problem instead of
hijacking someone else's thread. In your first post, state your full
Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista SP1), the IE8 Beta version currently
installed Also state if an earlier version of IE8 Beta (i.e., IE8B1) had
been installed and when you'd installed it.

The possibility of having to format & reinstall the OS is an inherent risk
you accept by default when you install any beta software.

You're testing IE8 Beta: Have you been testing a Firefox beta for 5 years?
I don't think so...

3/ When the program and features window opens look on the left of the window
under
'tasks' and click View installed Updates.
4/ Scroll down to the section marked 'Microsoft Windows'
5/ You should see Internet Explorer 8.0 Click on this to uninstall.
6/ Once uninstalled reboot your machine and IE 7.0 will be back.

I had the same problems uninstalling IE8 with Vista also! HP Smart Web

are too many compatability problems with other software. I'm finished with

I did a complete Re-Install after obtaining a nasty virus. I installed first
all updates. SP3 was the first installed because it includes a numerous
amount of the major security updates for the last 2 years. After everything
else, I then installed IE 8, Now i cant install anything else into the system.

all updates. SP3 was the first installed because it includes a numerous
amount of the major security updates for the last 2 years. After everything
else, I then installed IE 8, Now i cant install anything else into the system.

what do I have to do to get a delete button on this download.?
Post by PA Bear [MS MVP]
Did you install WinXP SP3 after you installed IE8 Beta1?
Did you do a "clean install" of WinXP and then install IE8 Beta 1?
What update did you install on June 25th?
Do you see this update behavior only when updating via Windows Update
website, via Automatic Updates, or both?

I have read alot of the posts here. And here is my problem. I am running XP
and updated to IE8. Since the update back on June 25th NO OTHER updates can
be applied. They download but do no install. I went through the control
panel and add/remove programs. IE 8 is there but there is no delete
button.
How can i delete it?

I'm running Vista SP1 and IE 8 Beta. When I go to
windowsupdate.microsoft.com, it says that I need to be running IE 5 or
higher. Windows Update doesn't work with IE 8.

I was running IE 7. When I intalled IE 8 Beta, I did not have to reinstall
Java. I can still go to www.time.gov and it seems to work ok.

I am also running Vista SP1 and IE8 beta 1. Beta 2 has just been released,
but it says I must first remove beta 1. Well, how do you do that? It's not
listed in the Programs and Features. Does anyone know how to uninstall this
beast?

Hi, Jim.

In Programs and Features, be sure to check View installed updates, under
Tasks. Then look for it alphabetically as Windows Internet Explorer 8, way
down under "W".

There was a long thread here in early June, Subject: Re: Want to uninstall
IE8, but it's...NOT listed under "View installed updates!, started by Phil
[Switzerland] on June 2, 2008. Even after about 40 Replies, including a few
screenshots, it appears Phil never did get IE8 to appear there. Please let
us know if you find it - or don't.

Jim, Article ID: 957700 works. I also made the mistake. I am running vista
with IE 8 beta. I went to a cmd prompt, and pasted this

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M
Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling
package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

hit enter answered yes a few times rebooted and was back at IE version 7

Umm, do you realize this thread dates from July 2008, that Jim posted on 27
August 2008, and that IE8 Final was released on 19 March 2009?

Depending on the beta build you had installed and your Windows version, you
may have been able to install IE8 Final without having to uninstall the beta
build.

I wonder why there have been no additional posts since July, as obviously not
any of the issues with IE8 have been resolved.

I stupidly downloaded it to my XP, already running SP3, and have had nothing
but problems ever since. I downloaded it because MySpace said it was
recommended to make their new layout run better.

IE8 will not work on my computer, nor can I get rid of the damn thing. I
have had to switch to Foxfire, which I love better than any IE, just to
access the Internet. I am back trying to do something about IE8 now, because
my PaintShop Pro has stopped working, and no amount of uninstalling or or
reinstalling it is helping (even removing all the parts of the program using
the Corel program for that). This only started after downloading IE8. I was
thinking maybe there was an update that would help, but can't get to any
updates because I'm running IE8 and the system thinks I am running something
earlier than IE5!

I hate IE8 and have been telling everyone they should switch to Firefox and
never go back to IE.

I feel used and violated. This is MY computer and it will not run for me the
way it is supposed to, way it ran for almost three years UNTIL I WAS SO
IDIOTIC TO DOWNLOAD THIS TERRIBLE PROGRAM!!!
